As we get older, cardiovascular health becomes increasingly important. Changes in blood vessels, physical activity, metabolism, blood pressure, cholesterol, and other health factors can all influence how efficiently blood circulates throughout the body.
One nutrient frequently discussed in connection with circulation is niacin, also known as vitamin B3. Niacin is essential for normal metabolism, and one form of it—nicotinic acid—can cause blood vessels near the skin to dilate temporarily.
However, describing niacin simply as a vitamin that “opens blood vessels” can be misleading. Niacin is not a general treatment
for poor circulation, blocked arteries, or peripheral artery disease, and high-dose
